Brony Advice is both an active collaboration with artists and an advice column, in the simplest of terms: I want you to send me notes if you have any problems, secrets or comments on the pony fandom of any nature. It doesn't matter how embarrassing, offensive or vicious they might be - if you want someone to comment on them in a rational way, send them over. Maybe there's something within the fandom that you particularly despise, or perhaps you're feeling sad and need to hear some friendly advice? Whatever the motive, send me a note with your comment or question.
I'll then respond with advice and commentary and post the answers up in future installments. Users will remain anonymous, so you don't need to worry about your feelings and thoughts getting out onto DeviantArt. You may find that some of the things that you've personally been feeling will be addressed.
Feel free to note me if you would like your questions and observations to be answered in an upcoming edition. Every edition will be engaging with three issues. The above three featured today were submitted by anonymous deviants.
I never really LOVEd Twiglight Sparkle, its kind of funny because Purple and pink one of my fav combos. But the character just never really won me over. I liked Luna best, and Rarity, and Flutter Shy.
I think one of the reasons I dislike Twilight is that she's so worshipful of Celestia....I realize she's a princess and Twi looks up to her, but she seems to forget that the princess is also a pony who has feelings and isn't a goddess. She's a real feeling creature and has a sense of humor. I think its so odd that they ever chose to make twi a princess. I more or less thought she'd be one of those really powerful unicorns, that was that. Then that horrible ep came on, so many songs in so little time, and it hardly made sense. It was the most rushed ep I ever saw!
Now we have the stupid Equestira Girls, the only reason I say stupid is because its based around some stupid PROM based idea. Like that hasn't been done a GAZILLION TIMES! Bratz does it too often and too many others, no one really cares about Prom Queen, its a stupid obsession! Anyways I don't know enough about the girls thing to say more, it just seems lame.
But my point is that Twi should have remained a unicorn and powerful, and in the ned I realized the girls were proud of her but they started acting like Twi towards Celestia, because she is now a royal. I dunno it just fel that way. Maybe it won't be so bad, but I dread season 4, I didn't love Season 3......(shrugs)
I love Rarity but I thought I was more of a flutter shy because I"m so nice about stuff. BUT my nieces and nephews all pointed out VERY quickly Rarity and won't let me budge them. The more I watched her the more I realized they were dead on. We're both passionate about what we love. I don't care about 'fashion' in the same sense as she does but I do love art as passionately. I I am also very lady like in my mannerisms I can't help it it just happens. That doesn't mean I don't have fun though.
Biggest of all we have the same kindness streak....that generaosity situation. I would rather see others get than myself.
I am very sorry for the person who wrote the question number 126. As for a fandom we theoretically get our base on love and tollerance, we're fucking intollerant. I pressume it's something wrong with those who make those "homophobic attacks from hundreds of bronies and even some death threats for turning their favorite ponies <into fags.>" As You said above, i believe there are few levels of, let's say, bronyism? Some tend to not give a buck to the message from the show (friendship is magic) or the base itself (love and tolerate). But i know numerous bronies who do so, or at least try to, me for example. Unfortunately for this case, being a brony is self-called. "People make the false assumption that bronies are all inherently kind and accepting people." - There, i pressume, You talk about bronies ourselves(myself)? Because from what i know, people in real haven't fully made their opinion on the fandom, but in the net the stereotypes are quite incredibly awful. It's the implication of the fact that a people gaining anonimity lose moral breaks.
I think i'm gonna watch You, these advices are surerly logical and reasonable.
I'm not sure why but it kind of bothers me that the second querent said she was an "LGTB person". Unless she's a lesbian, gay, transexual and bisexual at the same time she really could have just said she was a lesbian. For as long as I have been interested in MLP shipping almost all that I have seen is two girls.
Now a little bit of a rant on gay people. I've only known three gay people and two of them I think are cool people, nothing against them (third one I despise though). So I am fine with them on an individual basis but as a group I do not like them. I'm not saying they can't be be homosexual I'd just rather not know about it. It also bugs me that they complained about not being able to get married and there was an image I saw that said "Love is a human right, not a heterosexual privilege." I can't help but point out that you don't have to be married to be in love.
Marriage is more than just being in love. Marriage is as much a part of our judicial system as it is a part of our culture. For example, if you married someone who ended up being shot for whatever reason they will only allow certain relatives in to see them while under intensive care, if at all. The mom, the dad, and the partner - which would be you, since you married the person - would be the only ones allowed in during this stage. If someone cannot marry their chosen partner, the person they love most could be dying and they would not have the lawful right to see them. This is not justice. This is cruelty.
Furthermore, some people are not comfortable explaining their gender/sex. The term "LGBT" is a catch-all that the average heterosexual such as yourself as identify as shortly, "not of heterosexuality." People express their sexuality is many different ways, and some of them can be quite complex. For the sake of being succinct she chose to just use "LGBT."
Finally, you said, "I'm not saying they can't be be homosexual I'd just rather not know about it." Keep this in mind every time you kiss your SO on a bench at the park, because there are homosexuals and heterosexuals alike who find even such tame act in public very rude. If you don't want to know about someone else's sexuality, you must also keep your sexuality to yourself. It's only fair.

True, but I as a someone who can relate to them as I am Bisexual will make this point for your information. Most LGBT community members while that they violate one of the bible's biggest rules are still Christans,Cathoics,Jews, ect ect, and therfore in the view of they way they were raised they are committing a sin by being together and not being married, remember in most religions it is a sin to have sex before you are married no matter the case.
Alicorn Twilight is going to appear on the season finale, which is to air on February 16. Oh my, that is the day of my birthday too. I'm having high hopes for this season finale to be enjoyable, since I wasn't too fond of Season 3.
I'd like to say I see things for what they are. Do I like it? No. Do I hate it? Not completely. Why? Well, here are the facts that we know.
1) The most obvious one, the episode has not aired yet, so we don't know how it happens 2) This was confirmed to be a corporate decision, and its been confirmed she will be an Alicorn in Ponyville for the duration of S4.
Now lets make this clear. The status quo should always be flexible. That's when we know the show is intelligent.
Does this make THIS decision intelligent? No. How do determine that?...Well, what are the stories you can tell with this?
Twilight as a Alicorn Princess.....yay? Its not the end of the final season, so it really doesn't mean much to us. That is unless Celestia dies in the same episode, and NOBODY will be pleased about that. Celestia has MUCH more development to go through, especially now that Discord is back. Was I disgusted that Discord reformed slightly? No, not in the least. Its not like he's pure good know, he's pretty much 'Loki asking for a drink from Iron Man after loosing utterly'. If he was on the loose and evil, he'd just become a Team Rocket villain. With him as a Royal guest constantly pulling pranks, we get to see Celestia around someone besides her sister that's her age. Character development galore.
What can be gained from Twilight becoming an Alicorn? She has wings....so being awkward with her wings will be a constant theme. Not much there. She'll probably be more powerful, which was unnecessary since she was training to get stronger under Zecora anyway, so not much there either. This insures Trixie will never come back as a new hard working sorceress, cause any training to beat natural talent would be for naught against a princess. She already sees herself as a lecturing hero and has been going to Celestia's parties for most of her life, so no huge conflict with high society.
And she's been spoiled rotten for her entire life with the most perfect life imaginable: "perfect parents, perfect captain of the guards brother, perfect foal sitter who just happens to be a Princess, she's a natural genius, gets upgraded by Dash's Rainboom from unicorn with book talents to Sorceress Supreme, is the only direct student to the princess/goddess herself....and now she's a Princess."
Thematically, why should we like it if TWILIGHT becomes a princess? Is it the Twilight Sparkle show? No it isn't. I'm sorry, but that was only Season 1. Lesson Zero was made to satire her being THE main character. She is not Sailor Moon, she is one of 6, and the show is at its best written when she's 1 of 6. Twilight was OP from the beginning.
Who would of made more thematic sense of becoming an Alicorn? Why should it even be a coronation? Shouldn't it be someone we all expected might be an Alicorn cause it was so obvious? A coronation is a non-thematic upgrade.
Who's the rainbow haired pony who's trained herself to death but is still not where she wants to be in life, has the most anger and issues, grew up alone to conquer her own fears, has the cutie mark of the demi-god, and likely has no idea who her mother is.
Y'know, the one who has 1) no family up till this potential point, 2) No sense of high society 3) No experiance in magic, but 4) Has the hugest will in Equestria? and the list goes on.
I'm not speaking as an RD fan. I like Twilight and RD. But from a writers standpoint, this makes....ALMOST...no sense.
The reason I said almost is the possibility of re-balancing, which is the only thing that can make anything feel right between the 6. THIS CAN BE DONE RIGHT AND WE HAVE AMAZING AUTHORS. But what is the key?....The element of magic.
Not only is she wearing it as the princess, what if she's a princess BECAUSE of it? Here's the kicker of the Discord episode...the elements are theirs now. What is the possibility? AWAKENED ELEMENTS.
What else would Twilight have become if her element awakened to give her greater strength? Its a TIARA! That means if S4 revolves around each of the elements awakening, the other 5 will awaken to powers unique to their own hearts. Being a total Celestia fangirl her whole life, of course Twilight's would be the Princess one. That just gives the other 5 to show how badass they are just being themselves but enhanced. Like this...
#125, ah ah ah, I know this one and it's all too familiar. As for me, people mostly judge her like a book by its cover. So all I have to do is to wait till the episode is released. I'm confident that she is still my favorite and will behave like the Twilight I know. Speaking of Hasbro hating us, well, that is the many assumptions as I remember ever since Cadance came out, there's a lot of speculations and such but gladly when the Crystal Empire episode came out, my theory is that she's the daughter of the 1st Queen before her mother is gone, possibly killed by Sombra, Cadance is safe and probably rescued by Celestia before the city vanished. So for this case, I'm skeptical.
But here's something related, Derpy's disappearance. Yeap, I heard of the Reddit post which mention that not only the Hasbro execs throwing her out by fading her appearance, I heard the toy version also will be phased out too. I hope that is just a false rumor rather than complete fact. Besides, why would Hasbro hate us and eliminate the Derpy toy when it sell so successfully well? Besides that, how much sales did they make from Derpy? And it still bugs me, does the white Celestia's sale surpassed their past pink Celestia toy? I'll let you go into research mode when I give you that question in person.
#126, oh my, same-gender relationships I see when mentioned about that, hell no, I'm straight. So far I see all the Mane 6 are being friends among themselves, well, other than a "disturbance" I get is in the Wonderbolt Academy episode which Pinkie really love RD like mad. Overall, I treat them as best friends though.
Wow, when you mention the whole "Love & Tolerate" thing and say we're kind and stuff, well, MYTH BUSTED!! We did end up fighting and I did have 1 who blocked me for no reason while one of them who has an avatar of a hat of some kind almost blocked me because of some "Pinklestia - Made in China" controversy, well played, idiot (Not referring to you, Cudpug), I'm just voicing things out and yet you want to win and made me shut my mouth instead of telling me to just calm down, go **** yourself when I cannot forget that pain and yet you still owe me an apology!
Whoever founded the whole "Love & Tolerate" phrase, well, I guess that only works well during church services and possibly brony meet-ups and conventions. Outside in the world including the internet, no such thing and we're back to our bad side if provoked.

Finally someone who makes sence I can't wait until S3 finale, Hell if they whiners couldn't have firgued it out they must be pretty stupid. I mean there was so much foreshadowing that Alicorn Twi would happen it's not even funny.
In this case i wonder if they call themselves bronies because they watch the show, or because they are into the fandom? Because fandom music won't change because of wings. Neither will do the bronies You meet on meetups. P.S.: Your answer down below looks quite like a ragequit. I don't think You should even pay attention to the shitstorms people tend to make around these wings.
The problem is that every fandom that reach the size we have earns itself a Vocal minority. Polls done in Equestria Daily ([link]) cam up with only 30% of the people answering choosing the "hate the idea" and those most liky consist of many people who don't go overboard with their hatred to it.
Ultimatly, if the people so vocaly complaining about the the whole alicorn twillight thing would leave, we will most likely not notice the differance.
#125: I really can't add much to this answer, other than to say that they've had a 96% ratio of good episodes to bad ones, so there's little reason to think they can't make this change in Twilight into a good episode. The writers so far have been quite skillful in creating good content, both in the context of the show and all the meta things like references and integrating cast and crew OC designs, so all this panic is for naught.
One thing that I've found about the bronies is that a good portion of them are quite reactionary. Sometimes this is good, like when they reacted to a certain gray pegasus with wonky eyes. But most of the time these reactions are just plain unfounded. They thought Shining Armor and Cadance were bad decisions, yet those two characters have proven quite popular amongst the secondary characters. They thought the thirteen episode limit of S3 would be the death knell of MLP, yet there is evidence of at least another season after this one. I'm sure there are other examples (I don't pay enough attention to those type of people to say what). The bottom line is all of them were premature and, in retrospect, rather ignorant. They ignored the track record, which speaks for itself, and they ignored the promises of the people behind the scenes that this would be a great season.
If anything will kill the brony fandom, it is ironically the very bronies who are so vocal about their worries and predicting doom and gloom. Why would Hasbro and The Hub continue to cater such people? It'll have to reach a critical mass that, fortunately, it hasn't reached yet, but it can happen if such sour people continue to multiply.
That is where our greatest concern should be.
#126: If there is a strong anti-gay backlash in the community, it's a minor one.
Many people in the community are, after all, gay, and the ones that aren't are usually pretty tolerant. I'm a Christian myself, and don't approve of the gay lifestyle, but I'm not going to bash people over the head with this assertion. It goes against the core principle of "love one another." So, in other words, I "love and tolerate" the gays.
It doesn't mean everyone will do this, though.
Many Christians are, after all, haters, and most of the haters who would write such things are probably Christians. The best example is the Westboro Baptist Church, who IMNSHO don't deserve the name Christian. When someone sticks to such a ridiculous attitude, it's usually motivated by religious convictions and ideology.
This means you shouldn't take their hate-mail to heart. Their not acting on something they rationally believe in. They're basically spouting dogma that they heard from a preacher or a pamphlet, and it's meaningless. So you should treat it as such. Laugh it off as an ignorant fool who thinks they can control you through hate-mail. Because, really, who can do that unless the other person allows them, right?
#127: You really have no hope here of changing your mother's opinion.
I've got a similar situation with my dad. He wonders a lot about whether I've become some sort of pervert or pedophile. All I can say to that is, "dad, I love guns, love to watch football, and love to work in my shop. Does any of that sound gay to you?" He still isn't quite sure, so I've stopped trying to convince him.
Similarly, you're never going to change their opinions. Parents can't get over their children being grown up easily. It's a fact of life: even the ones that outwardly pretend to be okay with their children growing up and charting their own destinies are really torn up inside. They can't help it. You were a part of their life for nearly twenty years, and during that time you developed a relationship with them that, hopefully, will last a lifetime.
This relationship is very valuable, and not something to be taken for granted.
A natural result of this is your mother will want to protect you for the rest of her life. Whether she does so in a disruptive way when you're out on your own is anyone's guess, but I'd say she won't (statistically speaking).
The point though is that she will still feel the need to protect you from pedophiles and other people that wish harm to you, and if she thinks bronies are pedophiles, there's very little that can stop her from thinking it (all the clop-art surrounding the CMCs certainly doesn't help).
But until you move out, just keep in mind that she just acts this way because she loves you. You may not understand it until you have children of your own, but until you do, remember that.
So much win on that first question's response. Had near the same reaction when I found out how people were acting about this. Infuriating. Also, one more thing; I'm not sure if you consider yourself a part of the brony fandom or not, but I really hope you don't get the idea that we're all this ungrateful to Hasbro. I wouldn't blame you if you did considering this huge turnout, but--although a lot of my friends are a bit peeved about the whole alicorn thing--the ones I know haven't been dwelling on it for very long. (And they CERTAINLY dont start talking down to the company that made the show possible in the first place) I'm honestly excited for the change, even if they just make her a princess and dont give her wings. (Ala Prince Blueblood)
This is why I always watch a show knowing the possibility of change... I mean.. I DIDN'T MAKE THE SHOW so why should I care how Hasbro changes it? I kinda half expected her to be a princess the moment I noticed her element was a CROWN while her friends wore necklaces.... I for one am kinda interested on how she's gonna change and how her friends are gonna help her adapt to her new status I for one don't think "Oh, she's different she's gotta leave now" NO! She's just got new challenges to accept
Also, I think people are being too quick to trod on the thought of twilight becoming an alicorn. It's a requirement put upon DHX, so we're going to have to roll with it.
It's no different to the whole "royal wedding" thing and how twilight suddenly had a brother. I personally thought it was going to be a cringe-worthy episode, but it turned out being one the HYPEST experiences of the show, it was incredibly enjoyable and fueled much fan-content. Based on that, I have faith that the creators are going to make something worth while out of this whole event.
there's nothing stated about alicorns to begin with in the show. cadence, luna, and celestia are the only ponies who have horns and wings, but they've said next to nothing about them. All of this drama surrounding the concept is due to years of building up this thought that alicorns are some god-like race, which may turn out to be something much less significant than what people thought.
