Final score: C-
Choice quote: 'An odd episode overall, “Fame and Misfortune” sees an old-time writer returning to the show in order to comment on the glory days of Friendship is Magic and wonder what went wrong. Clinging to nostalgia is all well and good, but not as significant as the pungent smell of rotten apples clinging to Twilight's saucy journal – probably mixed in with her own lascivious liquids, annoyingly keeping some of the pages stuck together.'

This is one episode where I am in the minority. I loved the episode because it took jabs at the parts of the fandom that are so toxic. I do agree this would have made a better season four episode or perhaps season five but still, it was hilarious! I will forever have the voice of that elderly mare that said, "Twilight was better before she got wings!"
Now the Applejack being popular thing was still in good timing because some people STILL call AJ a background pony when she has been a consistent character throughout My Little Pony, in ALL generations. This is one of those episodes that I gave an A+ because of how blunt Larson was in pointing out the toxic parts of the fandom and making it funny. This is an episode that receives way too much hate because some people can't take a bit of criticism, even if it is a lighthearted jab that doesn't harm anyone.
And I loved how they brought in Toolaroola and Coconut Cream and had them be the ones who actually learned something given this fandom's ridiculous hatred towards G3. I personally wish that they had made those two regulars after that.
