It's interesting to see more parent-child related issues popping up in the later seasons of MLP. We've see that Rainbow Dash's problem with her parents was their excessive encouragement, Starlight's father treats her like a little filly than the grown mare she is, and Sunburst's mother tries to plan out his life because of her "worry" of his future rather than seeing that he has everything settled. What is interesting is that both Sunburst and Starlight's parents share the same thinking that they are needed in every step of the way. The moral could be to clarify to your parents and assure them that everything is well? It's rather confusing.

You know, there's a difference between being honest and being rude. Starlight and Sunburst could've explained themselves without yelling (but that wasn't the point). They never said it was wrong to be honest.

I think the kids were behaving badly and should have been called out for it more.

No the parents were behaving badly and weren't scolded enough.

Well, the kids hadn't visited their parents in a long time and they expressed their issues in a rude way. They're partially guilty.

The parents were rude and those two were sick of it so they stopped visiting them.

Ignoring a problem won't solve it.

That may be true. It just reminds me of Parental Glideance where the parents were evil and should've been arrested, but the ignorant writer just decided to go with the embarrassing parents cliche (one of the most insufferable cliches out there).

1. Granny Smith bit a pan without buying it, painted spots everywhere, dressed up as a bunny and jumped around like a moron, lied about founding Ponyville, then licked the chalkboard.

2. Rarity out of nowhere decided that Sweetie Belle was younger than she actually is.

3. RD's parents and Scootaloo tried to kill a crowd of ponies with fireworks.

4. Sunburst's mom is a bossy conclusion jumper, and Starlight's dad thinks she's 4 years old.

The ending was a little rushed, which is definitely what made this episode a mixed bag for me. I also think the writers missed a great opportunity to flashback to filly Starlight (fillies are always cute). Great review, though, as always.

Thanks buddy. I had to rush this one a bit sadly as I had other commitments in the day, but I appreciate you clicking through and reading the words rather than just glancing at the score :@)

Hey, no problem. Sometimes a Cuddlepug review can be one of the best things about a new episode.

And I definitely agree it looked like something was up between those two parents ;)

I'm gonna say this but...

It's not as good as Parental Glidence...

Definitely the first Friendship Problem-solving, Cutie Map episode that's bad. Starlight was solid here, but the plot is too repetitive for me, not to mention it's the equivalent of watching Parental Glideance, The Perfect Pear, Triple Threat, and Uncommon Bond all at once.

F (3/10 = Sloppy)

It was boring but okay episode I gave it 5/10 for at least giving some decent moments with townfolks and their parents.

Your humor and observational skills are on top like always, Cuddle. But I wouldn't have given this rating to the episode.

For me it was the worst of season 8 by far. :(

Cringe and cringe up until the last moment. If I were either Sunburst or Starlight, I would've given those two idiotic parents an upper hook for being so annoying.

This is a 'D' for me -_-

Btw, you rated the episode 'C', yet the preview pic says 'C-'. Which is the correct one?

Definitely a C-, thanks for pointing that out! Episode was pretty weird and wasted potential. I don't quite get what the point of the episode was.

It was a good episode. Typical parent and son/daughter relation. I don't really have much to say about the episode, except that Starlight and Sunburst were the one who cause the friendship issue by ignoring their parents.

Episode score: 7/10 (Good)

So far we have:

Episode 1&2 "School Daze" - 8/10
Episode 3 "Maud Couple" - 6/10
Episode 4 "Fake it 'till you make it" - 6/10
Episode 5 "Grannies Gone Wild" - 7.5/10
Episode 6 "Surf and/or Turf" - 8/10
Episode 7 "Horse Play" - 9.5/10
Episode 8 "The Parent Map" - 7/10

After a strong episode we get a weak one. I personally wanted to give this episode a 6.5/10 but decided to give it a 7 because we get to see Starlight and Sunburst's parent for the first time. Though the episode kinda bored me it still managed to keep my attention. The fact that Starlight and Sunburst called their parents "friends" really bugged me. A parent is more than a friend, a parent is someone who feeds/cares/disciplines/teaches/fills you up with advises since the day when you were born not someone who you just spend some time occasionally. I also think the map is going a bit far with these friendship problems, because this "friendship problem" was rather pointless. I mean it's natural that someone who's a grown up adult won't have the same relation with their parent as if they were a child because they have their own responsibilities now, they are their own now. They control their own life. I also don't get the resolution of the episode? Is it to communicate more with you parents or what?

Yeah, the resolution of this one seems to have confused a lot of people. Whole episode seemed a bit strange and meaningless.

The cutie map and its missions are pretty weird. Or Equestria really IS a darn happy happy joy joy place if the only Friendship problem finally popping up is "oh, there are these two completely fine people who are not a-okay with their parents. LEMME MAKE THEIR BACKS BLINK!"

...and if I got the moral correctly, the moral was also "treat your grown-up children like your friends" and vice versa (how children have to threat their old parents)? Parents are not friends. They just aren't. Family is more than blood, but friendship and parents-ish... I... just don't like to use that term when it comes to parents. I always assumed with parents, it is something special. More than friendship. The family kind of love that friendship can be like, but... it's not friendship. URGH!

Weird episode IMO.

"If your parents treat you like you are still a toddler/not like an adult, talk to them to fix your relation problems?"

+"and act more like friends?`"
